Sona Asset Management Raises $800 Million for Second Capital Solutions Fund
Sona Asset Management (“Sona”), a leading European credit manager, is pleased to announce the final close of Capital Solutions II (the “Fund” or “CapSol II”). Sona has raised $800 million to deploy
across the European credit markets, representing a significant increase over Sona’s prior Capital
Solutions strategy and its original target of $500 million.
The growth of Sona’s Capital Solutions strategy has been underpinned by demand from a diverse
range of existing and new institutional investors, including sovereign wealth funds, insurance
companies, endowments, pension funds and asset managers.
CapSol II is the first commingled Fund in Sona’s Capital Solutions strategy, and follows the raise of
Sona’s inaugural $300 million fund, which was an SMA launched in 2020. The strategy provides
targeted, bespoke financing solutions to companies in situations where funding is scarce. Sona
believes its credit expertise, market network and sourcing abilities enable the team to access
compelling investment opportunities in the European market.
CapSol II deployment to date has largely focused on investments at the top of the capital structure
in performing companies, across both public and private markets.
To further the capabilities of Sona as a trusted long-term partner, Sona has made an additional
three senior hires to the Capital Solutions team in anticipation of deploying CapSol II.
John Aylward, Founder and Chief Investment Officer at Sona Asset Management, said:
“We are delighted to see such a strong result for the close of CapSol II. We are grateful for the
continuous support from our existing investors and are pleased to welcome new investors on
board. Given the ever-changing landscape of credit markets, opportunities emerge where the
traditional set-up falls short. Sona is able to deliver tailor-made solutions to companies while
operating with agility and flexibility.”
Owain Griffiths, Partner and Portfolio Manager at Sona added:
“We believe that the approach we take within our Capital Solutions strategy provides
demonstrable and differentiated benefits. The flexibility to invest across what we see as the best
opportunities in both public and private markets facilitates healthy deployment. When combined
with significant recycling, this can provide a boost to the MOIC, which we believe is being borne
out in the results of both of our CapSol funds to date.”
